In this presentation, we will explore how the STRIVE (Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement) project has transformed the Govt. ITI Jogindernagar, Distt. Mandi HP leading to significant improvements in infrastructure, training, and industry partnerships.
The implementation of the STRIVE (Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement) scheme, launched in 2019, has significantly transformed the functioning of Govt. ITI Jogindernagar, Distt. Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. With a dedicated focus on increasing female enrollment and enhancing On-the-Job Training (OJT) opportunities, the institute has achieved remarkable progress in academic outcomes, industry partnerships, and infrastructure development. This case study showcases the pivotal initiatives and accomplishments under the STRIVE scheme, positioning the institute on a path of sustained growth and excellence.
Under the STRIVE scheme, the institute was granted ₹91.22 lakh for the period 2020–2024. This amount has been fully utilized for the holistic development of the institute, paving the way for enhanced training quality and state-of-the-art facilities.

Overview of the STRIVE Project
Project Objectives
The STRIVE project aims to improve the quality and market relevance of vocational training provided by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India.
Key Areas of Focus
Upgradation of infrastructure, increase in enrollment, capacity building of staff, and strengthening industry linkages for on-the-job training and placements.
Awards and Recognition
Ranked No. 1 ITI in Himachal Pradesh & 40th amongst top ITIs as per DGT (2019-20)
Ranked No. 2 ITI in Himachal Pradesh (2024) by DGET, scoring 9.1 points out of 10 in the national grading of 14,999 ITIs.
1st ITI of the Country to get “Kaushlacharya Award-2021” for implementing Apprenticeship in Establishment Scheme.
Purchase of Modern Machinery and Equipment
Advanced Machinery
Acquisition of cutting-edge machines and tools to provide hands-on training and exposure to industry-standard technology in various trade like MMV, Fitter, Plumber, IT lab.
Upgraded Infrastructure
  • Workshops for trades such as Cosmetology, Electrician, and MMV were upgraded with modern equipment and tools.
  • Ramps were constructed to ensure accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), fostering inclusivity.
  • Interactive Flat Panel (IFT) Smart Panels and 3D modeling software were procured to introduce audio-visual-based learning, transforming the teaching methodology across all engineering trades.
  • Epoxy flooring in Electrician Workshop.
  • Setup of IT lab by purchasing latest computers 20Nos., installation of Leased Line 10 MBPS to meet internet requirement in all campus both wired-wireless.

Instructors/Trainers received training at premier institutions such as NIT Hamirpur, HIPA Shimla, NIFT Kangra, and CSTARI Kolkata, NSTI Dehardun, IACE Gujarat enhancing their teaching and technical skills.

Facilitated visits to leading industries and other ITIs to foster knowledge sharing and best practices.

Emphasis on On-the-Job Training (OJT)

Industry Partnerships
Strengthened collaborations with local industries to provide meaningful OJT opportunities for students. The institute signed 27 Nos. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various reputed firms to ensure the availability of high-quality OJT opportunities and achieve 100% OJT target for all the trades.

Increased focus on industry exposure and placement assistance, leading to higher employment rates for ITI graduates and conducted 30 campus interviews and placed 339 trainees between Year 2022-24.

The trainees of MMV trade also made Electrical-Car (E-Car) out of scrap during their project work with financial assistance from STRIVE scheme.

Encourages and supports students to explore entrepreneurial ventures.

Career Counseling
A dedicated career counselling cell was established to guide female students in choosing non-traditional trades such as Fitter and Electrician.

Ensuring Safety and Hygiene for Female Trainees
  • CCTV cameras were installed throughout the campus to ensure the safety and security of female trainees.
  • Sanitary napkin vending machines and napkin incinerators were provided to maintain hygiene and convenience for female students.

Making Training More Accessible
Free bus services were introduced for female trainees during their OJT, significantly reducing logistical and financial barriers.
Reimbursement of bus fares was also implemented to further ease transportation challenges for female trainees.

Outreach and Awareness Programs
Regular school visits were conducted by the Principal and staff to motivate and encourage students, especially girls, to join ITI courses.
Expert lectures were organized to educate students on starting their own businesses and accessing financial schemes to establish a career post-ITI.

Before implementation of STRIVE Scheme, 120 Nos. female trainees were enrolled in the institute, but after the implementation of STRIVE scheme, female enrollment increased from 120 to 151.
Infrastructure Transformation at Govt. ITI Jogindernagar
Before the STRIVE project, the ITI infrastructure was outdated, with insufficient modern equipment and poor IT facilities. However, the STRIVE initiative transformed the institute, upgrading workshops, providing state-of-the-art machinery, and enhancing the digital capabilities.
These improvements have created a more dynamic and technology-driven learning environment, better preparing students for the demands of the modern workforce.
